KH: Green Riders Stick Together

Posted on Thu Jun 26th, 2025 @ 12:19pm by Green Rider Kalana & Green Rider Katlinara

Mission: 3531 AL
Location: Gather
Timeline: M2 D28

Kat took a deep breath as she looked around the Gather. She hadn’t really wanted to come as she had just lost her best friend but she had agreed for Z'ran’s sake and Avith pushing her to come. She had really just wanted to spend some time alone.

As she walked around a soft meow had her stopping in her tracks. Kat quickly turned toward the sound, her eyes widening in delight when she saw a little of felines. “Hey sweeties,” she crooned, kneeling by the basket of purring and meowing kittens.

Kalana waddled around the gather. She had a month to go but she very much needed some fresh air and sunlight if she was going to survive the next month and heat. “Ohhh Kat.” She crooned herself as she heard the woman. “They are adorable.”

Kat turned at the voice and smiled at Kalana, feeling for the other woman. She remembered those final days all too well. “They are,” she agreed, picking up a little black and white ball of fur who started licking her chin. Kat giggled, missing Koal more. “I love felines,” she commented, picking up a second kitten to hand to Kalana.

“I know you do.” She said sadly surprised when the kitten was handed to her but she snuggled the small black feline on top of her bump. “Are you thinking of getting another feline?” Kalana wondered smiling at the vendor.

Kat continued to snuggle the feline close to her. A couple tears slid down her cheeks. “I am,” she admitted. She missed having Koal around and she doubted Z'ran would mind.

“Hey hey no tears Kat. I am sure one of these felines would love to come with us to the Weyr.” Kalana said smiling as the purring from the one in her hands before she put it back with its brother and sister in the basket.

The green rider wiped at her face. “Sorry,” she apologized. “I just miss Koal.” She snuggled the little kitten closer to her chest. “Think so?”

“I am sure with the right temperament. It needs to be brave with dragons around.” Kalana commented with a smile thinking of how brave anything small must be with the Weyr.

Kat nodded a bit. “Very true. I am sure they are intimidating to the little ones.” Koal had stood up to Avith and Alith without a problem. It would be hard to find another one like that.

“Maybe we need to find a litter at the Weyr? One that has been born there and has it ingrained in them to not go near.” Kalana suggested softly wondering if she should take the one in her arms kindly and put it in the basket.

“Maybe,” Kat agreed, trying to think if anyone had any felines at the Weyr. She had seen a couple but never any kittens. Kat was reluctantly to put the tiny kitten down.

“I always have kittens green rider.” The merchant saw the reluctance to put the kitten down. “My caravan always passes the Weyr.” He added, smiling kindly.

Kat managed a shaky smile. “Thank you. I may be back then,” she said, slowly putting the kitten back with her litter mates.

“Come on, you need an ale or wine.” Kalana decided taking her wing mate's hand and tugged her. She wanted to get out of the sun and the other woman looked like she needed something strong to get on with her day.

Kat didn't argue as Kalana tugged her away. She knew she shouldn't get so upset over a kitten but Koal had helped keep her sane when Z'ran couldn't always be there. “I could,” she agreed.

“Good because I could do with a catch up after sevendays of being in the queens wing,” Kalana declared seeing a tavern close by that had riders outside do that meant at the very least it was safe.

Kat numbly walked beside her friend. She knew she should be more grown about all this but she missed her little friend “How has the Queen's wing been?” She asked, seeing the tavern Kalana was headed toward.

“Good. I have enjoyed it, but it isn’t like being in the fighting wings.” Kalana explained as she squeezed through a group of Riders who laughed at her size and moved to help her get through the gap in people and got inside the tavern.

“Won't be too much longer now and you’ll be able to join the fighting wings again.” Kat actually smiled as she watched Kalana easily push her way through the crowd despite her side and condition.

“2 months or so.” Kalana assured. She had another month of her pregnancy and she was hoping to wean the babe and get her health back before she rejoined the fighting wings. S’laten was happy to follow her lead on the baby, he just wanted her healthy.

Kat nodded. She remembered those times. She missed them but it wasn't to be for her. “I am sure you are ready to be holding that little one and not carrying them around.”

“A little.” Kalana was not entirely sure how she was going to feel once she held the baby in her arms. She would just be relieved once she could get back to normal in all honesty. “Can I have a large ale and a large juice please?” Kalana asked the barman. The woman nodded and quickly got the pair the requested drinks.

“I get it,” Kat agreed. She had felt the same way and she was sure that Kalana would love the baby once it was born. She grinned. “Thanks. How are you feeling?”

Kalana handed over marks and indicated a corner that looked free sitting down heavily. “I am okay just waddling a little which is annoying those S’laten says is adorable.” Kalana did not appreciate it but she knew he truly meant it.

Kat followed her friend over to the corner, drinking in hand. She laughed a bit. “Yeah I remember that quite well. Aw how cute,” she smiled, setting the juice down in front of Kalana.

“Do not encourage him.” Kalana laughed. “But he is a good man.” She had never had a moment of doubt about the man’s affections or anything which was nice compared to her former partners.

Kat laughed a bit. “I don't think he needs encouragement. I've seen you two together.” They were a cute couple and she was happy for Kalana.

“Thank you. Who knew a bronze rider would like a girl like me.” Kalana said blushing at the thought. She still got butterflies thinking of the big bronze rider daily. It was impossible to imagine how teenager her would have processed it.

“A girl like you?” Kat asked in confusion. “And why wouldn't a bronze rider like you? You're sweet and kind. S'laten is lucky to have you.” Kat had nearly lost her best friend because of her stupidity.

“I am hold born.” She said quietly before she shrugged. “But it doesn’t matter yet because he does and I am thankful for it.” She said quietly happy that he did as she could not imagine what she could have ended up with instead.

“Ah okay,” Kat answered. She hadn’t really thought about that. “I don't think you could do anything that would scare S'laten off,” Kat smiled, glad to be thinking about something besides the loss of Koal.

“Nope. I do not think you could either,” She was pretty sure that she would never be able to do anything like that and that was if she wanted to. She was pretty sure that he would never accept it if she tried. “Where is Z’ran?” She wondered turning the conversation from her to the other woman. S’laten was on watch still until midday.

Kat laughed a bit. The couple was cute. She shook her head a bit. “Honestly I don't know. After the flight demonstration I look track of him,” she admitted. He was good at disappearing but she was sure he was somewhere close by.

“Typical Z’ran.” The man was a law unto himself and no more than when a gather was happening. He could not resist causing chaos or at the very least getting himself into trouble.

“That it is,” Kat agreed. She had no doubt that Z'ran was causing trouble somewhere. The bronze rider was good at that.

Kalana grinned. She loved the bronze rider for his antics as they kept her entertained especially in the hard times that they had all faced. “I am sure he will find you.” Kalana had no doubt there. She took several sips of her juice feeling the coolness of the red juice calm her down.

“I don't doubt that,” she answered, sipping on her ale. Kat knew Z'ran would find her. He always did.
